Michigan lands 2021 four-star WR Xavier Worthy

Josh Gattis continues his hot streak by adding another top target, this time four-star speedster Xavier Worthy. Worthy is the third wide receiver commit to Michigan in the 2021 class, joining Markus Allen and Cristian Dixon.

The Fresno, California native released his top six schools on June 1st, including Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Alabama. However, Worthy’s commitment was a real tug-and-pull between Oregon and Michigan. Mario Cristobal’s Ducks landed multiple crystal balls for Worthy from experts on 247Sports. Worthy had planned on announcing his commitment on June 27th, many thought to Oregon, but a late push from Gattis and Michigan made Worthy postpone the announcement to today. The Wolverines soon received multiple crystal balls to land the speedy receiver, now holding 100%.

At 6’1 and 160 pounds, Worthy is a lengthy receiver with popping athleticism. He has the ability to stretch the field with elite speed and strong route running. Worthy is dangerous with the ball in his hands, so I would expect him to play on special teams as well while at Michigan. However, he does have a slim frame. He will need to add a little more weight and muscle before he is ready to take the field in Ann Arbor.

Worthy comes in as the 32nd ranked receiver in the country and the 175th ranked player overall, according to 247Sports’ composite. 247Sports’ own ranking has him at 95th overall in the nation. Many still believe he will still rise a significant amount in the rankings. Worthy is the highest-ranked of Michigan’s three WR commits. Getting him into the fold might have something to due with his friendship with Giles Jackson, which has grown throughout Worthy’s recruitment. The two could form a dangerous duo for Michigan in the not too distant future. They’ll both figure to have big roles in Josh Gattis’ speed in space offense.

Even with three commits at wide receiver, I don’t think Michigan is done quite yet. Four-star receiver Jayden Thomas from Georgia has been in good standing with Gattis and the Michigan staff. Thomas included Michigan in his top 11 back in February.
